Letter: In Support of Mike Mauro for Vacated Town Council Seat

Attorney Mike Mauro is the only correct candidate to assume the Town Council seat vacated by Ken Campbell. Mike Mauro was vetted during the two, Town Council candidate only, televised Republican Caucus debates responding to questions from and moderated by the owner-editor of the New Canaanite and editor of the New Canaan Advertiser. He also was vetted in the written responses to the published media Q-and-A forums that appeared in our town newspapers. Mike is brilliant, has the highest standards of civility, dedicated, loves our town and a dedicated family man. Above all he has the expertise that the Town Council Currently lacks—in labor law and labor dispute negotiating.

Letter: Andrew Brooks for Treasurer

As a practicing Certified Public Accountant over the past 40 years with the Big Four Accounting firms, a major international financial conglomerate and founder of my Certified Public Accounting firm in 1987, which firm is a member of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board and quality reviewed by the AICPA National Peer Review Division I can accurately and with industry knowledge attest to the outstanding performance of New Canaan’s current Treasurer Andrew Brooks. I have also functioned as treasurer of many not for profit organizations and currently serve as the Treasurer for the Greenwich Council of the Boy Scouts of America. That said, I can conclude that you do not need to be a Certified Public Accountant to function as treasurer for our municipality. The prerequisites necessary for performance in the treasury function are actual treasury experience in cash management and asset management and training in the treasury function. Andrew Brooks has received this necessary training at the international accounting firm of Deloitte Touche LLP and at his current position at Accenture.

Op-Ed: Where Are We Headed?

We awoke Monday to the senseless slaughter of our fellow Americans in Las Vegas—once again our nation mourns. My first text of the morning was from my 18-year-old daughter, a freshman in College 537 miles from home. She texted: “I heard about Las Vegas omg” and “Why would someone do this?”

I answered: “I have no answer to that.”

However, the truth is I did not want to overburden my daughter. There is an answer. When I was growing up we did not have hatred toward our own country, trample our flag, kneel for our anthem, hatred toward political leaders we disagreed with.

Op-Ed: Abramowitz on ‘Why I Am Running’ for New Canaan Town Council

I offer my constituents “real reform” and a “real voice.” I have shown that I can identify and outline procedures to implement “best practices” into the Town’s financial, accounting and managerial systems.

My family and I have been town residents for 21 years. My daughter graduated New Canaan High School this past June 20. I believe it is time for the Town Council to have a “practicing attest and forensic CPA” seated. I have been on point for a decade with my financial analysis and suggestions pertaining to Best Practices in accounting methodology, internal control changes and budgetary analysis as relates to town operations. Many of my suggestions have been implemented as “Best Practices.”

Letter: Town Council Candidate on Placement of Cell Towers Near Schools

As a candidate for Town Council, I wish to clarify that I agree with “parents’ health concerns and would prohibit placement of a cell tower within 1,500 feet of a school.”

I agree that cell coverage is a major issue for New Canaan. My home is located in the northeast quadrant of town and my family and I have bad cell coverage. I agree that proper cell coverage is necessary for the safety of the town’s first responders and residents. However. with approximately seven school locations in New Canaan, my position is that there are ample alternative locations other than school sites.
