Finally, New Canaan High School junior Alexandra Gillespie held a fundraiser called “Dig Pink” on Tuesday during the Rams volleyball team’s game against Brien McMahon. “Dig Pink is an annual event created by the Side Out Foundation to raise money and awareness for breast cancer,” she said in an email. “High schools around the country dedicate a volleyball game to the event and play for the cause, aiming to raise as much money as possible for the foundation. My mom is the parent in charge alongside our head coach Kevin Marino. My mom had breast cancer when I was little so we’ve led the event every year since I was a freshman.” Plans for the game included a raffle, bake sale, T-shirts for sale, and reading of dedications of the players on both teams, with all proceeds going to the foundation.
