“I’m for toilet equality.”—That’s what Town Hall Building Committee member Kathleen Corbet had to say about a matter that came to the forefront in the weeks after Town Hall reopened following an $18 million renovation and expansion. The architects on the project created two water closets but no urinals in the men’s rooms, citing space and compliance issues. For the record, fellow committee member Neil Budnick said: “I don’t see what the big deal is.”

A mixed-breed dog struck by a car near the intersection of Oenoke Ridge and Country Club Roads last Wednesday around 2:15 p.m. appears to be faring OK after the animal was brought to Cornell Veterinary Hospital in Stamford.

This week, 31 New Canaan kids attended a basketball camp in Stroudsburg, Pa. called ‘Hoop Group’ that NCHS men’s varsity basketball coach Mike Evans—founder of Full Court Peace—attended as a kid and at which he serves as a guest instructor.

Has anyone seen this cat? Named ‘Ali Rigo,’ this calico last was seen on Monday near Marvin Ridge Road in New Canaan. Anyone with information should phone 203-253-4050.

A 51-year-old town man was cited for an unsecure load last Friday when the City Carting truck he was driving tipped onto its side on Elm Place. The man had been removing construction debris from a job site on Orchard Drive around 11:41 a.m., and he tipped the truck while negotiating a downward curve in the road, damaging a fence, black curbing and trees.

A member of the Historic District Commission contacted the owner of an antique Greek Revival on God’s Acre that appears to be suffering from neglect—a home that hasn’t been lived in for about two years—and reached an agreement whereby its grass would be cut (which it has been).

Some trains on Metro-North Railroad’s New Canaan branch will be replaced by buses on Friday nights and on weekends from July 31 to Aug. 23, according to sister site Darienite.com.

Officials are planning to welcome the community to an official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the “new” Town Hall on Saturday, Sept. 12. Details to follow.

Animal Control officers say a Labradoodle around 9:26 a.m. on July 23 ran off-property up on Oenoke Ridge Road and pinned another dog to the ground. The victim dog was being leash-walked and suffered no injuries, and no tickets were issued. The dog’s owner were notified about the incident and encouraged to install an invisible fence or take other measures to ensure the dog stays on-property.

The New Canaan Society for the Arts has set an Aug. 20 deadline for entries to its Members’ Show. “Current or new members may submit up to three works not previously exhibited at the Carriage Barn Arts Center.” More information is available here.
