Police arrested a 51-year-old New Canaan woman late Wednesday for driving under the influence after arriving on the scene of a motor vehicle fully engulfed in flames on West Road.

At about 11:14 p.m. on April 13, police and firefighters were dispatched to the area of 845 West Road on a report of a fire, and it wasn’t immediately clear whether they were responding to a structure or car fire, according to a police report.

Arriving at West Road near Turtleback, the emergency responders saw that it was a motor vehicle fire, the report said. They found the car off of the travel portion of West Road and fully engulfed in flames, the report said.

After an investigation, police arrested the woman—a Ponus Ridge resident—on DUI as well as failure to keep right on a curve or hill.

She was the sole occupant of the involved vehicle, the report said. She refused a breath test, it said.

Police released the woman on $250 bond and scheduled her to appear April 26 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
