Letter: In Support of Rob Mallozzi and Nick Williams at Republican Caucus

More

Dear Editor,

I am writing this letter to declare my support for Rob Mallozzi and Nick Williams for the office of first selectman and selectman, respectively. But why support them (other than the obvious fact that I am Nick’s son)?

I’ll tell you exactly why: I have had the opportunity to see first-hand while working on Capitol Hill for the last six months how ineffective government can be. The toxicity of partisan politics has fortunately not infected New Canaan, and there’s a reason for it—the principled leaders we have elected. Rather than engaging in petty personal quarrels or hyperbolic statements, Rob and Nick have engaged in proactive work for our town.

So, what distinguishes Rob and Nick from the rest of the pack? What separates them from the mess that is polarization and partisan politics? The first factor is their transparency. I know that Rob and Nick’s offices at Town Hall are always open to everyone, and that goes without mentioning their near constant presence in town, whether it be them strolling our downtown, checking in on our schools, or cheering the NC Rams on at our sports fields.

In addition, Rob and Nick’s knowledge and expertise in leading our town is invaluable. While they don’t have the easiest job in the world trying to make everyone happy, they have performed an exemplary job and will continue to do so if re-elected. One doesn’t have to look farther than the recent natural gas agreement with Eversource, a huge win for our town. Their hard and diligent work was a clearly a big factor in getting a favorable deal done—a vital asset for our town’s future.

I’m often asked, “Chase, why is your dad so active?” The answer to this question is that he (and Rob) truly love this town and work tirelessly every day to make it a better place for their fellow residents. Unfortunately, Nick and Rob have been attacked unfairly by their opponents, who have described them in truly offensive terms while offering little to no positive ideas of their own that will benefit our community. That’s not the way you should run a campaign in the “Next Station to Heaven,” let alone the way you should govern it.

I know my dad and Rob to be honest, driven, and caring men, who have been civil servants for decades in New Canaan and want to continue their success in bringing prosperity to our exceptional town. By coming out to vote at the Republican caucus on July 18th, you can help them continue this journey in ensuring their re-election. Their proven, reliable, and steady leadership should be welcomed at a time like this; let’s keep New Canaan on a positive track for the future.

  1. Rob and Nick are a cooperative tandem and real patriots to the town (minus Rob being a Darien High School graduate). I don’t remember the last time I was worried about the direction of the town and it would be odd and unfit to imagine their strong leadership not being present in New Canaan’s town government.

  2. over/under for debate — I will try to keep track
