Margaret Jane Ellis, 95, of Keene, passed away on Oct. 22, 2018, at Westwood Center following a period of declining health.

Her many New Canaan friends know her as Jane Mason, from when she was married to her first husband, Robert L. Mason (predeceased), and they lived here with their two children, one of whom still lives in New Canaan. She was active in St. Mark’s Episcopal Church while in New Canaan.

She was born Feb. 11, 1923, in Philadelphia, daughter of Thomas F. and Edna M. (Fullwood) Cullen. She graduated from Southeastern High School and attended Eastern Michigan University where she received her Teaching Degree.

Margaret Jane resided in various locations in Pennsylvania, Michigan, New Jersey, Connecticut, and most recently Keene, NH, however, at heart she was a true Michigander.

In 1983 Margaret Jane married Stanley E. Ellis. They celebrated many years together before his death in 1994.

Margaret Jane taught in Michigan, New Jersey, Connecticut, and at Remington Rand in New York City. In 1988 she retired from Leisure Weekly as a Data Input Specialist. After marriage, she worked as a substitute teacher in New Jersey and in New Canaan.

A devout Episcopalian, Margaret Jane was very active in her worship community at St. James Church in Keene, NH, with her husband Stanley. There she participated in prayer and Bible groups as well as the Martha and Mary Guild. Outside of Church, Margaret Jane was a member of Church Women United and Sightseeing for the Blind.

Margaret Jane is survived by her children Barbara Mason of Connecticut and Larry Mason of Massachusetts; grandson Michael Mason of Massachusetts; stepson Everett Ellis (Sarah) of Florida and their children. She will also be missed by her Church family, especially her dear friend Carol Clinton of Keene, NH.

She was predeceased by her husband Stanley Ellis and sister Katherine Cullen.

Family and friends are invited to call at Fletcher Funeral Home, 33 Marlboro Street, Keene, NH, on Monday, October 29, 2018 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. A funeral service will be held later that afternoon at 2:00 pm at St. James Episcopal Church, 44 West Street, Keene, NH. Burial will be private at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA, where Margaret Jane will be laid to rest with her husband.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Margaret Jane Ellis’ name to St. James Episcopal Church, 44 West Street, Keene, NH 03431.
