New Canaan Library and Staying Put in New Canaan Present Necessary Conversations: A Series on Topics Related to Aging Midnight in The ER: Do You Know What Mom or Dad Wants?

Wednesday, January, 24, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

-In a collaborative effort, New Canaan Library and Staying Put in New Canaan present a three part series entitled Necessary Conversations, which addresses issues related to adult children and their aging parents. The second discussion, Midnight in The ER: Do You Know What Mom or Dad Wants? will take place on Wednesday, January 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the Library’s Adrian Lamb Room. Please register online at newcanaanlibrary.org. The third discussion will be held on Wednesday, February 7 at 6:30 p.m.
Medical emergencies are stressful enough – not knowing the patient’s preferences makes it all the more so. As a parent ages, it’s vital to be prepared for decisions that need to be made. The panel will cover topics such as helping parents choose a medical advocate, deciding on DNR orders, and other important issues.
The panel will be moderated by Nicola Holzberger, Director of Member Services, Staying Put in New Canaan, and will include a discussion by Sherman Bull, MD, Stamford Health; and cover topics such as palliative care by Kristin Edwards, MD, Yale-New Haven Health, and legal documents and directives by Michelle Beltrano, J.D., R.N., Beltrano Law.
