New Canaan Library is pleased to announce its 2nd annual Spring Edition author talk and lunch, which will feature The New York Times bestselling author Tayari Jones, speaking about her latest novel, An American Marriage. The event will be held at the Country Club of Darien on Thursday, March 7th from 11a.m. – 2 p.m. Individual tickets are $150. Benefactor tickets are $500 and include reserved seating, priority parking and a private pre-event reception with Tayari Jones. All tickets go on sale January 14th; please visit newcanaanlibrary.org for full details and to purchase tickets.

A compelling and highly relevant story, Jones’s An American Marriage is a New York Times and Washington Post notable book, an Oprah Book Club 2018 selection, and has garnered much critical acclaim. “Powerful . . . The story . . . is both sweeping and intimate—at once an unsparing exploration of what it means to be black in America and a remarkably lifelike portrait of a marriage.” – The New Yorker
“We are very pleased to welcome Tayari Jones as the honored featured author for the 2nd annual Spring Edition, a special fundraising event that brings readers and authors into an in-depth discussion,” says Ellen Sullivan Crovatto, Director of Development, New Canaan Library.
“The informal program, combined with the beautiful venue of The Country Club of Darien, makes this an event not to be missed. Generous corporate sponsorship provided by Fatou Niang of William Pitt Sotheby’s and from Bankwell enables us to bring impactful authors such as Tayari Jones to our community.”
Co-chairs Kate Burt and Maya Frey have planned a special afternoon that they hope will inspire all readers, and especially the many book groups that are active in town.
A masterpiece of storytelling, An American Marriage centers on Celestial and Roy, a young, upwardly mobile African-American couple living in Atlanta. The unthinkable happens when Roy is arrested and wrongfully convicted of a crime he did not commit. Along with being a taut commentary on the state of America’s race relations and justice system, An American Marriage is a remarkable exploration of the many intricacies and intimacies that shape and sustain a marriage.
Following the author’s talk, there will be a book signing, courtesy of Elm Street Books.
