Police cited a 14-year-old Carter Street girl on alcohol-related charges after breaking up an underage drinking party at her home.

Responding to a call that came in at 8:54 p.m. on Nov. 14 (a Friday), police arrived at the residence and saw teens scattering and walking down Carter Street carrying alcohol, as well as kids scrambling and running into the woods.

The girl who lived there told police she’d invited a limited number of kids and ended up with 50 or 60 in attendance, according to a police report.

Her mom, who was at home, told police she didn’t know what was happening, claiming she’d been on the phone for the duration of the party, according to a police report.

Police found eight 30-packs of beer (with only 40 individual beers unopened from that lot), as well as empty bottles of wine.

The teen was cited for permitting minors to possess alcohol and failing to halt possession of alcohol by minors.

The case was referred to the Juvenile Matters Division of state Superior Court. The 14-year-old is scheduled to appear Dec. 9.

  1. It’s not as if she thought she was just having a quiet evening at home. She knew the house was full of kids. She had invited 30 or so freshmen for a ping pong, pizza, etc. It wasn’t quiet to begin with. As we all know, parties can get out of control quickly. Lots of older kids showed up, bringing with them the beer. Stop beating up this mother. I could happen anywhere, and it does. She was trying to let her daughter have friends over. It got out of control quickly. Period. Geez haven’t you people seen any 80’s movies???
