A 58-year-old New Canaan man was arrested on misdemeanor charges Saturday night after shooting through the screen on a neighbor’s window with a pellet gun.

At about 11:13 p.m., officers went to Forest Street on response to a report of vandalism and loud music, according to Sgt. Carol Ogrinc of the New Canaan Police Department.

There, they spoke to someone saying they heard yelling and loud music from a neighbor and that a projectile had entered their home through a window screen, Ogrinc said. The officers knocked several times on the 58-year-old man’s house and finally entered through a screen door—there, they encountered the man holding what looked like a real gun, Ogrinc said. It turned out to be a black pellet gun.

The man was charged with third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree breach of peace and carrying a facsimile firearm. He was released on $1,000 bond and scheduled to appear July 1 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.

Police arrested a 39-year-old Cheese Spring Road woman on a minor misdemeanor charge after she slapped her husband when an argument turned physical, according to a police report.

It happened around 8:51 p.m. on Sunday, police said.

The woman was released after promising to appear Monday in state Superior Court in Norwalk.

Police reported last week that family disputes are up “significantly” in 2014 compared to last year—with 42 incidents reported, compared to 23 at this time in 2013—though not all of them are domestic violence incidents.
