Op-Ed: Roy Abramowitz Exploring Town Council Candidacy

More

I am exploring a run for Town Council. My family and I have been town residents for 21 years. I believe it is time for the Town Council to have a “practicing attest and forensic CPA” seated. I have been on point for a decade with my financial analysis and suggestions pertaining to best practices in accounting methodology, internal control changes and budgetary analysis as relates to Town operations. Many of my suggestions have been implemented as “Best Practice.”

I am a Certified Public Accountant, individual and firm member of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), with the firm inspected by the PCAOB and Quality Reviewed tri-annually by the AICPA-NPR (National Peer Review) pertaining to my SEC attest practice.

I was a pioneer in the establishment of the town’s Audit Committee, and writing procedural and operative guidelines for the committee. I worked closely with the subcommittee that established the Audit Committee.

I have always been there during time of emergency to help my fellow residents through CERT and the Office of Emergency Management for the past 21 years. As recently stated by our First Selectman I was instrumental in the early formation of the Town’s OEM.

My daughter will graduate New Canaan High School this June 20. I am fully aware of the miraculous job that our town’s educators and educational system does.

I am the Audit Committee chair (emeritus) of the Greenwich Council of the Boy Scouts of America. I am currently the treasurer (officer) of the Council, have been on the executive committee for five years and serve and have served on the budget, finance, investment and compensation committees for the last eight years.

I was the Audit Committee chair, a member of the budget, investment and finance committees and a member of the board of the Starlight Children’s Foundation for 25 years.

New Canaan needs change and experienced financial leadership in its legislative branch to maintain its excellence in challenging financial times.

When I believe in something I maintain my position even if it means walking alone. I have found the combination of this trait and maintaining a team player attitude results in outcomes that encompass “Best Practices.”
