An owner of Spiga at 136 Main St. in New Canaan said the Italian restaurant is expected open Aug. 1 following a major interior renovation that will deliver a unique dining experience.

Located in the former Barolo space downtown, Spiga will offer not only an extensive wine list and wood-burning pizza oven, but also a custom copper beer tower with eight craft beers at the 21-stool bar and a throwback, fresh-made foods area in front of an open kitchen, according to Dan Camporeale.

Specifically, prosciutto, soppressata and other dry-aged meats will be featured in a glass case and hang from the ceiling there, beside a “gentleman that makes fresh pasta all day long—some pasta red because of beets, some green with basil, all different shapes and sizes,” Camporeale said.

“There will be a whole show going on back there,” said Camporeale, who partners include members of the Racanelli family. They also own Molto in Fairfield, Lugano in Greenwich and both Zaza and Dolce in Stamford.

Asked how he’s feeling as the finish line nears following a months-long renovation, Camporeale said: “It’s an exciting time. Stressful and exciting time.”

Camporeale added that he was eager to say ‘Thank You’ to a patient and positive New Canaan community.

“I would honestly just say ‘thanks’ for all positive feedback from anyone in there—‘This is cool’ and ‘That is cool,’ ‘Can’t wait to see this’ and ‘That is great’—everyone has been as excited as we are to get open. I hope there are no more delays and we can finally get to work.”

The interior renovation to Spiga’s 4,100 square feet (read about them here, under ‘building permits’) have included replacing and relocating the former bar and taking down dividing walls for a more open feel and style that Camporeale has called “industrial chic.”

Camporeale has said that Spiga will be an “everyday type place” for local diners.
