Typically set up toward the end of residential driveways, the upright “Step2 Kid Alert” signs stand nearly three feet high and are neon green.

At about 3:30 p.m. on Monday, police received a report a resident came upon a pile of 22 of them—as well as 16 additional base stations, three orange flags and two plastic hats—on a vacant lot on Huckleberry Hill Road.

The signs yielded no identifying information, according to Police Lt. Jason Ferraro.

Anyone who is missing one can reclaim it at the New Canaan Police Department, he said.
