Police on Tuesday morning arrested an 18-year-old senior at New Canaan High School on felony drug charges.

The teen was charged with illegal possession of marijuana near a school and illegal manufacture, distribution, sale, prescription or dispensing of marijuana, according to a press release issued by Police Chief Leon Krolikowski.

“The New Canaan Police Department is committed to targeting and arresting those that sell drugs within the town of New Canaan,” the chief said.

Police arrested the teen at about 11:06 a.m., seizing prepackaged marijuana, a scale and cash during the bust, Krolikowski said.

The teen, a Mariomi Road resident, was released on $10,000 bond and scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Norwalk.

  1. 18 years old and sale of drugs near school … and no name? Mike … time to reconsider your policy on naming names so we don’t have to skip to Advert to find them out.

    • I have included the names of arrested people in cases where I think doing so is a matter of public safety—that, after all, is the major reason to report on arrests/police activity. I do not publish names to satisfy people’s curiosity, and as you know, my major concern is that in this Internet age, a simple Google search by a job recruiter or even prospective date one year, five years, 10 years from now can turn up evidence of a lapse in judgment or worse from what may well be, at that point, a past life. That’s a very serious, consequential thing to do, and it has repercussions for the individual involved that go far beyond the scope of the original arrest—in other words, it creates new problems for people, problems that weren’t there before and that the police and court system themselves never intended. Even in cases where charges are dropped, and an arrested person’s record is cleared, that highly searchable bit of news is one click away. My strong feeling is that it isn’t New Canaanite’s place as a local news outlet (or anyone’s place) to do that. I’m happy to discuss it further and appreciate your comment.

      • One of the many reasons why I love Newcanannite.com… you are not interested in salacious headlines or details to sell your newspaper! Thank you for your journalistic integrity and commitment to “getting the story right”.

  2. I agree with your policy of not naming people charged in crimes. The only reason people want names is so they can gossip. A person does not need his name forever on the Internet for a mistake he made when he was 18. You are doing the right thing with this policy, never change it, especially when it comes to non-violent crimes.

  3. I continue to be absolutely amazed by the integrity and high standard with which Mike holds himself to. After other on-line “newspapers” have come and gone, we finally have the one we needed all along. I can speak from personal experience that Mike is extremely dedicated to printing the absolute truth in all matters and consistently avoids the pull that sensationalism exerts on others within the media. We are very lucky to have him among us. Mike – congratulations to you all on your much deserved award!
