Police after midnight Wednesday arrested a 30-year-old Weston man for drunk driving after stopping him for running a stop sign and then swerving on Old Stamford Road.

At about 12:40 a.m. on June 1, an officer saw the motorist fail to halt at a stop sign, then, while traveling northbound on Old Stamford Road, cross over the double-yellow line, according to a police report.

The officer smelled alcohol on the driver’s breath during a stop, the report said. The motorist failed field sobriety tests and later tested at nearly twice the legal blood-alcohol limit during a breath test, it said.

Inside the car the officer found a bottle of tequila, bottle of margarita mix, flask and marijuana grinder with pot residue on it, it said.

Police arrested the man for driving under the influence and cited him for failure to obey a stop sign, failure to drive right and possession of drug paraphernalia with less than .5 ounces of marijuana.

He was released on $250 bond and scheduled to appear June 14 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
