Stamford Woman Arrested after Writing Bad Check to New Canaan Business

Police are investigating a 43-year-old Orchard Drive woman’s report Sunday that a bank had notified her about suspicious activity.

According to the complaint, the woman’s identity had been used in two credit card applications, where someone used her name, date of birth and Social Security number. The bank did not issue the cards after becoming suspicious.

Police arrested a 43-year-old Stamford woman by warrant last Thursday after she issued a bad check in the amount of $1,375 to a town man, 57, who has a store here in New Canaan.

The check was received back on Nov. 24 and a week later the New Canaan man received a notice of insufficient funds, according to a police report. He tried to contact the woman who had written it but couldn’t reach her, so he reported it to police.

The woman was released after promising to appear March 10 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.

A New Canaan man was arrested by warrant at 4:46 p.m. on Feb. 24 on a charge of second-degree failure to appear.

The Brookside Road man had missed a court date on Sept. 20, 2013, stemming from charges the prior month of third-degree assault and disorderly conduct.

He was released on $495 bond and scheduled to appear March 9 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.

Finally, a 21-year-old Springfield, Mass. man was arrested by warrant on Feb. 23 on a charge of first-degree failure to appear not showing up in court to answer charges of interfering with an officer, criminal impersonation, second-degree forgery, three counts of third-degree larceny and illegal possession of a shoplifting device that stemmed from a March 20, 2014 incident downtown.

He and others had been arrested for stealing items from Radio Shack on Park Street.

The arrested man faces additional charges in other municipalities.
