Street Style: ‘Fabulously British’ Lucy and Poppy

More

Here’s our debut installment of “Street Style,” where we stop someone walking in New Canaan who clearly gives thought to how they’re turned out, and put some style-related questions to them.

Today we cornered British-born Lucy Ewington and Poppy Cracknell outside New Canaan Library following a New Canaan Chamber of Commerce event. They’re general managers at British clothing outfitter Jack Wills—Lucy here in New Canaan and Poppy on Nantucket (she’s visiting newly landed Lucy at the moment, helping her get set up).

Here’s our chat.

NewCanaanite: What are you wearing?

Poppy: I am wearing one of our brand-new trench coats which is new for our spring season that we’ve just launched. Also have on our Fernham jeans which are super-popular, we’ve done them since 2010 now, so they’re nice spring products. Hoping that it gets warm soon.

Lucy: I’ve got our new spring season paisley shirt, something new that we have been doing this year but it’s really great for spring. You can layer it up this time of year. As we’ve got snow, we have leggings, long boots, cardigans. So layering up all the summer dresses and summer shirts is fantastic, and you can still do it, just grab your pair of leggings or skinny jeans. Job done.

In one phrase or sentence, describe your own personal style.

Poppy: “Fabulously British,” I think.

Lucy: Classic.

What is your one style tip to the people of New Canaan?

Poppy: Layering. Build up. That’s something we always do within the brand, be it sweatshirts with button-down shirts underneath, layering is always good.

Lucy: Stand out.

How would you describe the style of New Canaan people?

Poppy: Oooh I’m very new. I’ve only been here an hour, so that’s new to me. That’s Lucy.

Lucy: I would say preppy, classic styles, simple tailoring. Very classy and quite conservative.
