The New Canaan girls lacrosse team is having a terrific 2015 season, sitting near the top of the FCIAC with a 9-1 conference record (12-3 overall). A major reason for the Rams’ success has been the play of senior co-captain Elizabeth Miller. The Boston College-bound Miller has been New Canaan’s most potent all-around weapon, wracking up multiple goals and assists each game as well as controlling draws and causing turnovers for the opposition.

New Canaan Girls Lax Falls Short Against Darien

Just like any New Canaan and Darien matchup, there was buzz heading into Thursday night’s girls lacrosse contest. And with both teams coming into the showdown undefeated in FCIAC play (6-0), the buzz grew to a roar at an electric Dunning Stadium. In the end, it was the Blue Wave who made the most noise on the field. Led by junior midfielder Chandler Kirby’s three goals and a stretch of five straight goals between the end of the first and start of the second half, Darien took down the Rams 12-9. “The game plan was really to be disciplined,” New Canaan coach Kristin Woods told NewCanaanite.com. “They [Darien] have a spectacular team.

New Canaan Girls Basketball Tops Staples, Earns State Playoff Berth

What a difference a year makes. One season removed from a 3-17 campaign the New Canaan Rams girls basketball team qualified for the State tournament Friday night by defeating Staples 40-37. The victory was a big one for New Canaan head coach Kim Palmer, who has seen her team win 4 of its last 5 games to earn the postseason bid—New Canaan’s first since the 2011-2012 season. “I’m so happy that they accomplished one of their goals this year in making the state tournament,” Palmer told NewCanaanite.com. “I’m really proud of where the girls are—there’s a lot of heart and emotion and hard work that’s gone into it, and I’m excited for them to take it to the next level.”

New Canaan was led by senior co-captain Elizabeth Miller who scored 12 points, including several foul shots down the stretch that saw the Wreckers all but erase a 9-point New Canaan lead earlier in the 4th quarter.

Miller Leads New Canaan Girls Basketball Over Danbury

Elizabeth Miller scored 10 of her game-high 25 points in the 4th quarter, leading the New Canaan Rams girls basketball team to a key 53-46 home win over Danbury on Wednesday night. “The girls came to play,” New Canaan head coach Kim Palmer told NewCanaanite.com. “I’m really proud of where they’ve come from the start of the season until now. There’s been a tremendous amount of growth and the kids are playing well together. I couldn’t be happier for them because they deserve it.”

Miller, a senior captain on the girls basketball team has been a key figure in the Rams’ success as New Canaan eclipsed last season’s win total just nine games into the 2014-15 campaign. The senior point guard has been New Canaan’s most consistent player throughout the season, frequently reaching double-digits in scoring–including a team-high 14 points in the Rams’ first win of the season over McMahon–while also racking up impressive numbers in the rebounding and assists columns. Behind Miller’s leadership the 4-7 Rams are in contention in both the FCIAC and state playoff races.
