PHOTOS: Pets and Pet-Lovers Hit Dog Days New Canaan At Pet Pantry

Hundreds of leash-wielding New Canaan and area animal lovers descended on the parking lot at Pet Pantry on Grove Street on Sunday for a dog-friendly event that’s become a hugely popular spring tradition downtown. Less than halfway through the 7th Annual New Canaan Dog Days, an estimated 500-plus dog-lovers had visited the merchant tents, signed their four-legged family members up for contests, sampled free ice cream from Baskin Robbins and enjoyed the music of New Canaan School of Rock, one of its organizers said. As it did for Caffeine & Carburetors at Waveny in the morning, the weather held out for Dog Days, said Adam Jacobson, executive vice president of Pet Pantry New Canaan. The event is expected to raise “thousands upon thousands of dollars” for Adopt-A-Dog as well as Strays & Others, Jacobson said. “We have great support from our vendor partners,” including New Canaan Veterinary Hospital, he said.

Obituary: Grace Moss Oei, Past President of New Canaan Board of Realtors

Grace Moss Oei of Mint Hill, N.C. died April 7, 2016. Devoted wife of the late Rudy T. Oei. She is survived by her daughters J. Elizabeth Oei of New Canaan, Laura A. Farley (Christopher) of Mint Hill , NC, and John C. Oei of London, UK. She is also survived by her three granddaughters Annika, Samantha and Elise Soleil Farley. Grace enjoyed extensive travel and spent many years living in Rio de Janiero, Brazil and Paris, France before returning to New Canaan.

Upon first look, Elizabeth Oei might seem to have her hands full. A longtime New Canaan resident, she serves as member of the New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corps (NCVAC) and the Pop-Up Park Committee in addition to a full-time nurse consultant job. She also may be most recognized around town for her two beloved dogs, Cosmo and Bean, gentle animals that she describes as her children. After speaking with Oei (full interview transcribed below), however, it became clear that her involvement is a pleasure and it is all these things that flesh out her full personality. We sat down with this very involved woman to discuss her time in New Canaan, her various roles and responsibilities, and of course her dogs.
