New Canaan Dog Quarantined after Bite Sends Victim to Doc

A New Canaan dog is in quarantine at the police department’s animal control shelter after biting a person in the area of Kiwanis Park, officials say. Police at about 6 p.m. on Feb. 9 learned of the bite from urgent care physicians treating the victim. It isn’t clear just where or how severely the person was injured. The dog’s rabies was vaccination up-to-date, according to Officer Maryann Kleinschmitt, head of the police department’s animal control unit.

Stolen in New Canaan: Jumper Cables, Jewelry, Motorcyle

A New Canaan Gulf worker on Feb. 1 reported to police that a man who had “borrowed” jumper cables from the station, saying he needed to jumpstart his car, made off with the equipment. At about 7:09 p.m., according to the Gulf employee, a Hispanic man with black hair and tan pants driving a white Nissan Maxima entered the station asking whether he could purchase jumper cables to start car, police said. The Gulf worker was told the vehicle was just a short distance away, police said. He decided to let the stranger borrow the cables, and the latter never returned, according to a police report.

New Canaan Man Arrested on Felony Charges

New Canaan police arrested a Forest Street man on felony charges after he kicked in his bedroom door and later violated a protective order, officials say. The 42-year-old was charged with two counts of risk of injury to a minor, third-degree criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. At 10:26 p.m. on Feb. 1, police received a call that the man had kicked in and broken a door to a bedroom with his wife and two small children inside, according to a police report. Police set some no-contact conditions upon releasing the man on $3,500 bond and assigning a Feb.
