New Canaan FC Girls U11 Red Team Beats Trumbull

The New Canaan FC U11 Girls Red Team defeated the Trumbull United Heat on Sunday amid cold temperatures and autumn snow flurries. As the New Canaan offense got off to a cold start in the first half, the tough defensive play that has been the Red Team’s signature all season took center stage. The defense of Nola Kammerer and Kate Caione, with Ava Gizzie in the goal thwarted all of Trumbull’s attempts to score and the half ended in a 0-0 tie. The scoring in the second half began as Caroline Underwood weaved her way past the Trumbull defense and buried a shot in the net after receiving a lead pass from Gizzie. With the score now 1-0, Katharine Byrne was fouled just outside the box drawing a free kick.

U10 Red Boys Dominate SCOR Tourney

U10 Red Boys Soccer team competed in the SCOR tournament this weekend, defeating all four opponents. Each game demonstrated the U10 boys’ skills in dominating the ball at the net and down the field. Two of the exciting games were shutouts with finishing of 3-0 and 6-0. New Canaan only allowed in two goals for the entire tournament, winning those games by scores of 6-1 and 5-1. Jayden Oyekanmi led the scoreboard with six goals for the day.

New Canaan Football Club U11 Girls Red Team Advances to Third Round of CT Cup

The New Canaan Football Club’s U11 Girls Red Team beat the Simsbury Galaxy on Sunday to advance to the third round of the 2015 Connecticut Cup Tournament. The first half began with New Canaan controlling the ball and dominating the field position with high energy play that seemed to take Simsbury by surprise. The Red Team kept the ball away from Simsbury with sharp, precise passes which allowed them to repeatedly attack in the Simsbury end. The offense had a number of shots on goal that couldn’t find the target until Ava Gizzie scored on a beautiful crossing pass from Ella Patterson to post the first goal of the game. The defensive effort of Nola Kammerer and Kate Caione frustrated Simsbury and disrupted the Galaxy from forming any organized attack.

U10 Girls Black Soccer Triumphs Over Danbury, 3-1

The U10 Girls Black soccer team went toe-to-toe with a physical Danbury squad today and came out with a hard fought 3-1 win. In the first half, New Canaan’s defense was stifling as Kailee See, Amanda Vigano, Sofie Brauweiler and Chloe Oyekanmi took a stronghold on the field. Goalie Logan Severance anchored the defense with a staunch performance. New Canaan took an early lead with the persistence of Alexandra Gelvin, who found Reagan Quinn in the penalty box. Quinn, with great poise, nailed a low shot past the goalie.

New Canaan Girls U10 Red Notch 3-1 Win over FUSA Red 2

New Canaan Girls U10 Red traveled to Fairfield on Sunday to take on FUSA Red 2. It took a full team effort in what would prove to be a very physical game to come away with their second win of the season. Both sides started out on the offensive and New Canaan first half goalie Kathryn Norton was tested early as she made several key saves. Defenders Maggie Murphy and Devon Russell were constantly fighting off Fairfield attacks deep in the zone and moving the ball up field. The play at midfield was no less intense with Lila Volpe and Fiona Mueller driving down the field one minute and immediately reversing course to chase down Fairfield’s players the next.
