William Egan in the past has served as assistant principal at Brookfield High School and as dean of students at Norwalk High School, according to a press release issued by the district.

Egan “demonstrated the attributes the New Canaan High School community sought,” Luizzi said in the press release.

Those include “his outstanding leadership abilities as an innovative and intuitive leader of staff and students; dedication to the concept and practice of positive school culture and core values; understanding of the value parents as partners bring to the educational experience; expertise as an instructional leader with a deep understanding of current standards and assessment processes; experience with the implementation of technology into curriculum as a tool and resource.”

Luizzi—himself a former Brookfield High School principal, prior to NCHS—said the search took in information from teachers, parents, Board of Ed members, administrators, faculty, staff, students and members of the community.

“Mr. Egan emerged as the outstanding choice to lead New Canaan High School” following three rounds of candidate interviews, the superintendent said.

Egan will succeed Dr. Veronica LeDuc, who is in the position on an interim basis following Luizzi himself, who assumed the role of superintendent last summer.

Luizzi thanked LeDuc “for her excellent work this year as Acting Principal of NCHS.”

“Her outstanding efforts on behalf of students, staff, and the community have made a positive difference throughout her tenure, and we thank Dr. LeDuc for all that she has done, and will continue to do, as an administrator and educational leader at NCHS,” Luizzi said.

A plan for the school and wider community to meet Egan soon will be announced, he said.

Luizzi additionally thanked the following people: Jennifer Richardson and Sheri West, Board of Education members; Gary Kass, Director of Human Resources; Jill Correnty, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction; Darlene Pianka, Assistant Superintendent of Pupil Personnel; Alan Sneath, Director of Visual and Performing Arts; Jay Egan, K-12 Wellness Coordinator/Athletic Director; Lizette D’Amico, K-12 ELL/World Languages Coordinator; Larry Sullivan, NCHS Assistant Principal; Christian Dockum, NCHS Science Department Chair; Bob Stevenson, NCHS Social Studies Department Chair; Cynthia Rivera, NCHS Guidance Department Chair; Evan Remley, NCHS English Teacher; Chris Tournas, NCHS Math Teacher; Donna Sapienza, NCHS Family and Consumer Science Teacher; Sandy Warkentin, NCHS School Psychologist; Vivian Birdsall, NCEA President; Stephanie Kushner and Jennifer Essigs, NCHS parents. Their outstanding commitment to the New Canaan Public Schools was instrumental in helping identify William Egan as the next principal of New Canaan High School.
