SUMMARY:American and International Contemporary Organ Music Concert
DESCRIPTION:Carson Cooman\, Organist and Composer in Residence at the Memorial Church of Harvard University\, will present a special program of American and international contemporary organ music at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in New Canaan\, Connecticut\, on February 21 at 7 pm.  \nCarson Cooman\, Organist and Composer in Residence at Harvard University Chapel\, will present a special program of bold\, boundary-pushing contemporary organ music on Friday\, February 21\, 2025 at 7pm  at the historic building of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church\, 5 Oenoke Ridge\, New Canaan\, Connecticut 06840.  Doors open at 6:45pm. Free reception to follow.  Suggested donation $20. \nMusic selections include works by six American and four international composers. Among the American composers are Gwyneth Walker\, a prominent American composer and New Canaan resident; Alla Borzova\, an award-winning composer and St. Michael’s Director of Music; as well as Karen Beaumont\, Nancy Galbraith\, Iteke Prins (Netherlans-Canada-USA) and Alexander Dmitriev. International composers include Yûitirô Katô (Japan)\, Carlotta Ferrari (Italy)\, and two composers from Sweden: Villemo Daneling and Thomas Åberg.  \nCarson Cooman is an American composer and organist. Since 2006 Cooman has held the position of Organist and Composer in Residence at the Memorial Church\, Harvard University. As an organ recitalist\, Cooman specializes in the performance of contemporary music. Over 300 new compositions by more than 100 international composers have been written for him. Cooman has made many recordings as organist\, including more than 15 complete CD releases of music by contemporary international composers along with several multi-composer albums. Over 300 new compositions by more than 100 international composers have been written for him\, and his organ performances can be heard on a number of CD releases and more than 7\,000 recordings available online\, representing the work of more than 700 composers.  Cooman is a prolific composer.
