DESCRIPTION:New Canaan Library will welcome Dr. Nitkin K. Sethi\, a board-certified neurologist from New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center\, to speak about the important topics of concussions and brain injuries. Dr. Sethi’s live webinar will be aired on Monday\, March 15 at 7 PM EST. Please register at newcananlibrary.org; Zoom link will be provided upon registration.\nAlthough concussions and the long-term issues resulting from them have been more prominently discussed in the last few years\, there are still many questions and misconceptions swirling around the topic. This lecture is appropriate for those age twelve through adult and is part of New Canaan’s “One Author New Canaan” monthlong series of events celebrating the works of Jacqueline Woodson. In Woodson’s Before the Ever After\, one of the main character’s struggles with the emotional and physical side effects of a traumatic brain injury sustained during his career in sports.\nIn his lecture\, Dr. Sethi will cover topics such as what exactly a concussion is\, how to identify concussions and other mild traumatic brain injuries\, how concussions happen during contact sports\, and how to maintain brain health\, among others.\nNitkin K. Sethi\, MD\, MBBS\, FAAN is a board-certified neurologist with interests in Clinical Neurology\, Epilepsy and Sleep Medicine. After completing his medical school from Maulana\nAzad Medical College (MAMC)\, University of Delhi\, he did his residency in Internal Medicine (Diplomate of National Board\, Internal Medicine) in India. He completed his neurology residency from Saint Vincent’s Medical Center\, New York and fellowship in epilepsy and clinical neurophysiology from Weill Cornell Medical Center\, New York. He currently serves as Associate Professor of Neurology\, New York-Presbyterian Hospital\, Weill Cornell Medical Center and Chief Medical Officer of the New York State Athletic Commission. \n
