SUMMARY:Dr. Luizzi to Speak to New Canaan Men’s Club
DESCRIPTION:As another school year is coming to a close\, the New Canaan Men’s Club will hear from School Superintendent Dr. Bryan Luizzi at its meeting May 30 as he discusses the academic programs that consistently rank the town’s schools as the best in the state. \nThe meeting at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church\, 111 Oenoke Ridge\, will begin at 10 a.m. with Dr. Luizzi beginning his remarks around 10:40 a.m.  \nAs superintendent\, Dr.Luizzi has overseen the implementation of unique programs designed to benefit students at all grade levels\, including the development and implementation of the high school’s alternative learning program\, the district’s elementary Literacy Academy and the renovation of the high school’s planetarium into The Dome\, an immersive learning theater serving all grades. \nDr. Luizzi joined the New Canaan Public Schools as principal of the high school in 2011 and was named district superintendent three years later. In all\, Dr. Luizzi has spent more than 28 years as an educator\, beginning as an English teacher in Newtown High School. \nIn addition to his program work\, Dr. Luizzi has also continued to keep the district at the height of innovation\, overseeing building updates to each of the district’s schools\, including Saxe’s Design Lab\, a center of innovation for the middle school’s STEM-related classes\, and the high school’s Makerspace and Virtual Reality Lab. These forward-thinking spaces allow students to create\, problem solve and learn utilizing today’s modern technology.\nDr. Luizzi earned his Doctor of Education degree from the Teachers College at Columbia University. \n
