SUMMARY:New Canaan Library Presents a Talk by Molleen Theodore on Modern Women Artists in The Museum of Modern Art's Collection as Part of the Museum’s MoMA@Work Series
DESCRIPTION:New Canaan Library is pleased to offer a special lecture through The Museum of Modern Art’s “MoMa@Work” series\, whereby Museum educators and speakers present offsite talks at businesses and organizations. MoMA educator Molleen Theodore will deliver the talk Modern Women Artists in MoMA’s Collection on Tuesday\, September 11 at 6:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public; please register to attend\, online at newcanaanlibrary.org.\nMs. Theodore will cover many aspects of the topic\, including how\, throughout the history of Western art\, the practice of singling out prominent female artists has undermined their artistic achievements. In this presentation\, Theodore will explore works by modern women artists in MoMA’s collection who\, with outstanding originality\, nurtured\, expanded\, and challenged a male-dominated field. \nMolleen Theodore is the Associate Curator of Programs at the Yale University Art Gallery and a lecturer in the Education Department at The Museum of Modern Art. At Yale\, Theodore heads the Gallery’s Programs Department\, conceptualizing and overseeing interdisciplinary programs and collaborating  across the museum\, the University\, and the community. At The Museum of Modern Art\, Theodore has experimented with approaches to object-based teaching and audience engagement. She has served as a critic at the Yale School of Art and a lecturer in the Department of the History of Art at Yale. Theodore holds a PH.D. from the CUNY Graduate Center with a focus on the art of the 1960s and 1970s.  \n
