SUMMARY:Surface: New Work by David Hill
DESCRIPTION:Sorelle Gallery is pleased to announce our upcoming exhibition\, Surface\, featuring the work of David Hill. Open October 24th through November 6th at Sorelle’s New Canaan\, CT Gallery. The show will open with a reception Friday\, October 24th from 5-8PM. \nHill’s landscape and plien air paintings inherently draw the viewer in by capturing the energetic life of the natural world. His work captures the kinetic environment\, thus revealing the essence of nature. Hill highlights specific familiar aspects of nature to pull the viewer into the scene: the dappled light of the sun shinning down through leaves\, the way a wave rakes over stones as it is pulled back into the ocean\, and the stillness of being alone surrounded by tall trees. “The feeling of a memory is often more important than the memory itself”. \nCompositionally\, Hill captures seasons and creates unique portraits and snapshots of the natural world by focusing on the smaller details within the greater landscape. He meticulously works with oils using color blocking techniques and thick layering of paint to build towards his desired effect. Aesthetically pleasing\, these works show extensive attention to detail and capture the everyday energy and harmony within the world around us\, exposing the soul of the painting. \nRaised in the Virgin Islands\, and traveling extensively throughout the world\, David Hill began his artistic career as a computer animator. After moving to Italy to study figure painting under Igor Babailov\, Hill then journeyed to Hawaii to study plien air painting. Combining his diverse background of skill\, Hill is able to explore the oil medium in numerous ways. He has worked in portraiture\, landscape and figure. He has working recently with resin and turpentine within his oil works. David currently lives and works in the Saratoga Springs area of upstate New York. \n
