DESCRIPTION:‘THE HEALING POWER OF STILLNESS’ IS TOPIC OF\nLECTURE AT NEW CANAAN CHRISTIAN SCIENCE CHURCH \nOn Sunday\, November 6 at 3:00 pm Christian Science practitioner Larissa Snorek-Yates will give a lecture on the topic “The Healing Power of Stillness” at First Church of Christ\, Scientist\, New Canaan\, 49 Park Street. The talk is free\, and everyone in the community is welcome. \nBasing her discussion on The Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy\, the discover and founder of Christian Science\, Ms. Snorek-Yates will explain how everyone can discover a stillness that brings lasting peace and healing to their lives. She cites Mrs. Eddy’s statement\, “…the heaving surf of life’s troubled sea foams itself away\, and underneath is a deep-settled calm”\, and will discuss how we can find within ourselves this calm\, which cannot be disrupted by fear or any outward disturbance. \nBefore dedicating her life to the full-time practice of Christian Science\, Ms. Snorek-Yates received her Master’s degree in sustainability and peacebuilding and taught graduate students at the World Learning Institute. The Institute focuses on issues of social justice and community action\, which enabled the speaker to see how relevant the ideas of Christian Science are to the challenges facing the world today. \nDescribing a personal experience where Snorek-Yates found herself overseas with limited funds and no job or place to live\, she said\, “I’d just been reading this idea from Psalms\, ‘Whither shall I go from thy spirit?…If I say\, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.’ I glimpsed that there was no dark situation that the light of Christ—the inspiration of God that comes to each one of us—couldn’t penetrate. This was a transforming moment for me and it started me on a life-long journey to practice Christian Science healing and share it with others.” \nThe New Canaan Christian Science church holds services and Sunday School each week at 10:30 a.m. and testimony meetings each Wednesday evening at 7:30\, where members and attendees speak of their own healings and inspiration gained from the study and practice of Christian Science. The church also has a public reading room at the parking lot level\, where Christian Science literature is available to read\, borrow or purchase. Included are bound volumes of verified\, published testimonies of Christian Science healing from over 100 years.
