He is the author of France’s Long Reconstruction:  In Search of the Modern Republic (forthcoming\, October 2017).  His other books include State Capitalism and Working-Class Radicalism in the French Aircraft Industry; and co-authored with Peter Stearns\, European Society in Upheaval:  Social History since 1750 (third edition).  He has also co-edited several books\, including Race in France:  Interdisciplinary Perspectives on the Politics of Difference.  Since 1999 he has served as the editor of the journal French Politics\, Culture & Society.   \n
