DESCRIPTION:Join Grace Farms Horticulture Director Kimberly Kelly and experts from Kansas State University for a hands-on field study to safely record\, tag\, and release monarch butterflies throughout Grace Farms 80 acres of landscape. \nLearn how to net\, tag\, and record Monarchs in a way that supports the best outcome for healthy butterflies to survive migration\, winter\, the flight north in late spring\, and successful reproduction in late summer. This workshop ends with our a cup of our butterfly pea flower tea and a culinary treat in the Commons. \nOver the past few decades\, monarch butterfly populations have declined by close to 90%. As a participant of the Kansas State University’s Monarch Watch program\, Grace Farms has been working to increase the Monarch habitat and this summer we will be participating in the Monarch Watch tagging program. \nRecommended for ages 12 and up. Due to uneven terrain for the field portion of the workshop\, strollers\, walkers and wheelchairs are not recommended. \n

DESCRIPTION:Join Filling in the Blanks on August 23\, 2026\, at the Eighth Annual Unite to Fight 5K. The race will take place at Mill River Park located in Stamford\, CT. Enjoy a 5k race with food\, prizes and t-shirts\, all while benefitting Filling in the Blanks and their core programs. \nIn Fairfield County\, more than 33\,000 children are not sure where their next meal will come from. Most will get breakfast and lunch from school every weekday\, but many will go from Friday lunch until Monday at breakfast without a decent meal. Founded in 2013\, Filling in the Blanks is an organization that fills in those weekend gaps by providing each child in its program with a bag filled with healthy\, easy-to-prepare food for the weekend.  When the obstacle of food insecurity is removed\, children experience increased academic achievement in school and greater opportunities for success in their lives. FITB continuously serves 10\,000+ kids at over 200 sites throughout Fairfield\, Westchester\, and Putnam counties. FITB has also established four in-school pantries and in 2023 launched the Fresh Food On The Move mobile pantry that provides families with fresh produce\, veggies\, proteins and other staples\, as well as health and wellness services. \n

DESCRIPTION:The American Revolution\, a landmark documentary by Ken Burns\, Sarah Botstein\, and David Schmidt\, examines how our nation’s founding was at once a war for independence\, a civil war\, and a world war that impacted millions. We are pleased to present screenings of all six episodes in their entirety for America 250.  \nEpisode One: In Order to Be Free (May 1754 – May 1775)  \nLed by George Washington a small force of Virginia militiamen and their Native-American allies ambushes unsuspecting French soldiers\, kicking off the Seven Years’ War (known in North America as the French and Indian War). During the war\, George III becomes King of Great Britain following the death of his grandfather George II. The war rages across the globe until 1763 with the signing of the Treaty of Paris\, in which victorious Britain acquires French possessions in North America and Spanish Florida.  \nIn the years following the end of the war\, the British Government issues royal proclamations and parliamentary laws that limit colonists’ expansion westward and impose new taxes on common goods such as paper\, glass\, lead\, and tea. These imperial reforms\, as they are thought of in Britain\, are met with unrest in the colonies\, leading to violent protest and calls for boycotts of British goods\, as well as the formation of new groups like the Sons of Liberty and Daughters of Liberty.  \n

The representatives remain divided — some hopeful for reconciliation with Britain\, others increasingly committed to permanent separation.  \nIn the north\, Patriot forces led by Benedict Arnold and Ethan Allen capture Fort Ticonderoga on Lake Champlain after the British garrison surrenders without resistance. Soon after\, Congress officially forms the Continental Army and appoints George Washington as Commander-in-Chief.   \nThe British launch repeated assaults on Patriot positions at Breed’s Hill and Bunker Hill outside the city of Boston. The British eventually seize the high ground and drive the Patriots from the Charlestown Peninsula\, but they suffer heavy casualties — nearly 40% of their troops are killed or wounded in the Battle of Bunker Hill. \n

Depending on where the viewer stands\, the shining reflection constantly alters\, and engages the viewer in many places along the grounds. The work urges the audience to reflect upon themselves and their relationship to a changing landscape. \nFernández and Thatcher’s conversation will be preceded by a short solo viola recital by award-winning Jamaican-American violist Jordan Bak to open the season’s music program\, with a focus on the contemplative and active dynamics of peace. \n
