SUMMARY:America Abroad: Art\, Architecture\, and Diplomacy – Works from the FAPE Collection
DESCRIPTION:On view July 1 – December 31\, 2026 \nPresented on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the United States and FAPE’s 40th year of operations\, the exhibition offers rare public access to artworks typically seen only at US embassies—spaces not generally open to the public—and explores how art and architecture have shaped the United States’ diplomatic presence abroad from the Cold War to today. It draws from FAPE’s Site-Specific\, Print\, and Photography collections and includes maquettes of sculptures commissioned for major embassies\, as well as works by leading American artists including Carmen Herrera\, Jasper Johns\, Ellsworth Kelly\, Sol LeWitt\, Roy Lichtenstein\, Julie Mehretu\, Martin Puryear\, Robert Rauschenberg\, Ed Ruscha\, Joel Shapiro\, Frank Stella\, Carrie Mae Weems and many others. A replica of the 1823 William J. Stone engraving of the Declaration of Independence—gifted from David M. Rubenstein to FAPE in 2013\, one for each US embassy—will also be on view. A parallel section focuses on the evolution of US embassy architecture\, featuring buildings designed by leading mid-century architects such as Edward Durell Stone and Walter Gropius\, alongside more recent contributions by firms including Skidmore\, Owings & Merrill (SOM) and KieranTimberlake\, among others. \nAMERICA ABROAD invites visitors to experience the cultural environments in which diplomacy unfolds. It traces how embassy art and architecture have evolved since the Cold War and draws attention to many original midcentury embassies that are now being decommissioned\, with uncertain futures. \n

SUMMARY:Botanical Watercolor Painting with Sarah Crossman
DESCRIPTION:Following the spring iris class\, we’re excited to offer a second\, all-new workshop with artist Sarah Crossman – this time inspired by a seasonal summer bloom. The artistic subject will be a classic heat-loving annual flower from the daisy family\, like a zinnia or cosmos. \nPerfect for all skill levels — participants will learn step-by-step how to create a finished painting from the provided reference image. Sarah will demonstrate essential watercolor techniques\, including washes\, wet-on-wet\, and dry brush\, offering plenty of individual guidance throughout the session. \nYou’ll leave with a completed painting and a solid foundation to continue your watercolor practice at home. \nMaterials are provided\, but feel free to bring any of your own watercolor supplies if you prefer. \nPlease bring lunch or snacks—we’ll take a short break to eat and recharge. \n$80 Members / $95 Non-Members \nSarah Crossman is a watercolor artist whose work is deeply inspired by the beauty of nature. Based in Bedford\, NY\, Sarah draws much of her inspiration from the botanical subjects found in her garden and the local environment. Her paintings capture fleeting moments of everyday beauty\, focusing on light\, texture\, and intricate details with a keen eye for nature’s delicate forms. Sarah is drawn to the watercolor medium for its unique balance of challenge and tranquility. The process of painting with watercolors allows her to explore both precision and spontaneity\, creating pieces that resonate with the serene energy of the natural world. \nA graduate of Skidmore College\, Sarah further honed her craft at The New York Botanical Garden. Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions and galleries throughout the Westchester and Fairfield areas. \n

SUMMARY:Filling in the Blanks Unite to Fight 5K
DESCRIPTION:Join Filling in the Blanks on August 23\, 2026\, at the Eighth Annual Unite to Fight 5K. The race will take place at Mill River Park located in Stamford\, CT. Enjoy a 5k race with food\, prizes and t-shirts\, all while benefitting Filling in the Blanks and their core programs. \nIn Fairfield County\, more than 33\,000 children are not sure where their next meal will come from. Most will get breakfast and lunch from school every weekday\, but many will go from Friday lunch until Monday at breakfast without a decent meal. Founded in 2013\, Filling in the Blanks is an organization that fills in those weekend gaps by providing each child in its program with a bag filled with healthy\, easy-to-prepare food for the weekend.  When the obstacle of food insecurity is removed\, children experience increased academic achievement in school and greater opportunities for success in their lives. FITB continuously serves 10\,000+ kids at over 200 sites throughout Fairfield\, Westchester\, and Putnam counties. FITB has also established four in-school pantries and in 2023 launched the Fresh Food On The Move mobile pantry that provides families with fresh produce\, veggies\, proteins and other staples\, as well as health and wellness services. \n

SUMMARY:Season Opener | Teresita Fernández
DESCRIPTION:Internationally acclaimed artist Teresita Fernández joins us in the Sanctuary for a conversation with Grace Farms Founding Creative Director Chelsea Thatcher to discuss her studio practice\, research\, materials\, and site-specific work\, Double Glass River (2015)\, which has become an integral part of Grace Farms. \nCreated in relationship with the River building and nature in 2015 during the period of the building’s construction\, Double Glass River\, resembles an undulating galaxy of 10\,000 mirrored glass cubes and expands horizontally across the curved wall at the end of the Commons. Depending on where the viewer stands\, the shining reflection constantly alters\, and engages the viewer in many places along the grounds. The work urges the audience to reflect upon themselves and their relationship to a changing landscape. \nFernández and Thatcher’s conversation will be preceded by a short solo viola recital by award-winning Jamaican-American violist Jordan Bak to open the season’s music program\, with a focus on the contemplative and active dynamics of peace. \n
