Bristow Bird Sanctuary Topic of Men’s Club

Friday, January, 28, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Conservation Commission Chair Chris Schipper will speak to the New Canaan Men’s Club Friday, Jan. 28, about the Bristow Bird Sanctuary and Wildwood Preserve, which is two years short of marking its Centennial. Located 47 Old Stamford Road, the preserve is made up of 17 acres serving as a safe habitat for a variety of birds along with walking trails for residents.
The Men’s Club is meeting virtually on Fridays via Zoom with start times at 10 a.m. The speaker remarks usually begin around 10:30 a.m.
The preserve was founded by residents in response to a national movement around the time, recognizing the environmental and social benefits of bird conservation. In 1916, New Canaan residents formed the Bird Protective Society with Harry Bates Thayer as its president. In business, Thayer led AT&T and had served as president of Western Electric.
Schipper, aside from chairing the Conservation Commission, also sits on the boards of Waveny Park Conservancy and the New Canaan Land Trust. Now retired, in his career he worked for Bain & Co., PepsiCo and Dell Computer. He has degrees from Georgetown University and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
The club has openings for men over 55-years old. For further information, email ncmens@ncmens.club.
