Town Swears in Four New Canaan Police Officers

Officials on Thursday swore in four new officers of the New Canaan Police Department during a well-attended ceremony at Town Hall. Selected from a field of 50 applicants for entry-level police officer positions, Emily Clark, Erin McCarthy, Joseph Schinella and Giancarlo Vincenzi were selected to attend the State of Connecticut Police Academy next month and then begin field training in New Canaan in January, Police Chief Leon Krolikowski said. “Today is a very special day that began months ago,” he said during the ceremony, held in a board room at Town Hall. “Many challenges and changes lie ahead for our department and our profession but with individuals like Erin, Emily, Joseph, and Giancarlo joining our ranks, I see great success as we fulfill our mission to protect and serve the town of New Canaan,” the chief said. Town Clerk Claudia Weber swore them in.

First ‘Run with the Law’ Coming to New Canaan This Spring

New Canaan law enforcement officials are calling on town residents to participate in a new fundraiser for a cause that police here have supported in other ways for more than 30 years—Special Olympics of Connecticut. According to New Canaan Police Officer Ron Bentley, plans are underway to hold an inaugural 5K ‘Run with the Law’ at Waveny in the spring. The project is in its “infancy stages,” he said. “Athletes depend on sponsorships to compete [in the Special Olympics],” Bentley told NewCanaanite.com. “Last year, the event was held in Los Angeles.

New Canaan Police Department Promotes Four

Four members of the New Canaan Police Department have been promoted, Chief Leon Krolikowski said Monday. The promotions follow two recent retirements and “will empower us to continually provide the highest level of service to our community,” Krolikowski said in a press reelase. “We are proud of these newly promoted officers, their accomplishments and their dedication to our department and town.”

Two of those promoted include officers who had moved up in rank as recently as last summer. Former Lt. Andrew Walsh has joined the NCPD command staff as captain, a position that became vacant when former Capt. Vincent DeMaio took the job as Clinton Police Department chief earlier this year. The promotions are as follows, Krolikowski said:
