New Canaan Police on March 18 traveled to a Pennsylvania prison to take custody of a 35-year-old man facing charges here. According to Connecticut Judicial Branch records, he had been charged in 2021 with second-degree threatening in one incident and then disorderly conduct and violation of a protective order in another one. Released on $40,000 total bond, he’s now scheduled to appear April 1 in state Superior Court.

New Canaan Aquianas Artistic Swimming Team at 2026 East Zone Championships. Contributed
Congratulations to the New Canaan Aquianas Artistic Swimming Team on earning the High Point Trophies for Youth and Junior Teams at the 2026 East Zone Championships, held March 5–8 in Tonawanda, N.Y. The tournament is a key qualifying event for national-level competition, and the Aquianas’ success positions them strongly for the upcoming championship season. Founded in 1977, the team will continue training in preparation for the U.S. Junior and Youth National Championships this spring.

In 2025, New Canaan Bicycles raised $6,000 in its second annual fundraiser for the Teddy Balkind Charitable Foundation. “Customers donated bicycles that they were no longer using,” Lou Kozar, the Park Street shop’s owner, said in an email. “These bicycles were then refurbished and sold to support donations to the charity that keeps alive the vision and passions of its namesake Teddy Balkind.”

New Canaan Chamber Music’s next concerts are almost here. Titled “Clarinet Meets Classical Accordion!” concerts will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 16 and 7 p.m. on Friday, April 17 at First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan. They will feature Yoonah Kim (clarinet), Ryan Corbett (accordion) and Andrew Armstrong (piano), the organization’s founder and artistic director.

Congratulations to the New Canaan High School Fencing squad, which participated in the Connecticut Individual and Team State Fencing Tournaments. The team placed 5th in Foil at the Team State Championships, and senior Tyler Bleil finished 2nd in Foil at Individual States and earned 1st Team All-State honors.

Sarina Oliveira, a graduate of Byram Hill High School in Armonk, N.Y., and Norwich University in Northfield, Vt., where she earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, and serves as a member of the U.S. Army National Guard with Charlie Company 119th DSSB- 2LT.
