A police officer responding to Weed Street for a location check was bitten by a black spaniel-type dog on the upper leg at about 9:22 p.m. on April 4, according to a case report. Blood oozed from two puncture wounds, the report said. The animal was up-to-date on its rabies vaccine and underwent a 10-day home quarantine.

Congratulations to 2024 New Canaan High School graduate Tema Wagner, a member of the Davidson women’s lacrosse team, which on Sunday won the A-10 championship, notching the Wildcats their first-ever NCAA tournament bid. Wagner overcame a stress fracture that wiped out her freshman season.

Dr. Elizabeth Hannaway
New Canaan Public Schools has hired a new special education administrator for grades 5-8. Dr. Elizabeth Hannaway will start in the role July 1, the district said. She comes to New Canaan with 20-plus years of experience, most recently as assistant superintendent of special services at Ridgefield Public Schools.

The New Canaan Gridiron Club last week honored Bob Doran as this year’s “fall guy,” with an entertaining musical based on the honoree’s life played to live audiences over two nights at the Country Club of New Canaan. Doran, a child actor who went on to become a series regular on CBS’s daytime drama “Love is a Many Splendored Thing,” before a decade on NBC’s “Another World,” later launched a career in advertising as a producer, director and writer and eventually founded his own boutique agency (earning two New England Emmy nominations for documentaries, among other awards). In New Canaan, Doran has given decades of service to nonprofits, including the Town Players of New Canaan and New Canaan Chamber Music.

The Community Emergency Response Team or “CERT” recently held its annual meeting at Lapham Community Center. More than 50 active members of CERT attended, along with Russ Kimes, the town’s director of emergency services. A presentation was made by Shannon Valerie, a sanitarian and health program planner in the New Canaan Health Department, presented on ” Mental Health First Aid.”

The selectmen on Tuesday approved the hiring of Jason Lombardo as a building maintenance custodian for the town, and Joshua Castaneda as an equipment operator in the Department of Public Works.

The New Canaan YMCA and Inclusive Together on April 19 hosted the third annual Autism Family Fun Day at the Y on Sunday, April 19, honoring the acceptance and inclusion of individuals with Autism in the community. The event brought together 23 families with kids of all ages who enjoyed sensory-friendly activities, including swimming, sensory art, playing in the Kid Zone and snacks in an inclusive, low-stimuli environment.
