Four people have been transported to Norwalk Hospital, including with life-threatening injuries, following an accident involving four cars on Silvermine Road at about 5:34 p.m., officials say.
Speed likely was a factor and an accident investigation team is at the scene—about one quarter-mile north of the intersection of Silvermine Road at Clapboard Hill and Little Brook Roads, according to Lt. Fred Pickering.

According to a press release issued by Police Chief Leon Krolikowski, one motorist was ejected from a vehicle, and others were trapped when emergency responders arrived. Krolikowski called the accident “complex.” It isn’t clear whether or how many passengers were in the vehicles.
Motor vehicle traffic is closed at Clapboard Hill and the Carter/Canoe Hill intersections of Silvermine/Route 106.
Mutual aid was provided by emergency responders from Norwalk, officials say. According to Krolikowski: “New Canaan Fire Department, New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Norwalk Fire Department, Norwalk Hospital Ambulance and Paramedics all were at the scene extricating and treating the injured.”
“This accident is being investigated by a multi-jurisdictional serious accident team with New Canaan Officers leading the investigation,” he added. “Details about this tragic accident are evolving.”
CERT volunteers could be seen helping move traffic at the scene.
