New Canaan police on Friday cited a 24-year-old Bridgeport man on minor drug charges after the department’s K-9 dog found a small amount of marijuana stowed inside the false top of a beverage can.

At about 10:04 on Nov. 6, the NCPD K-9 officer stopped a car on Old Stamford Road near Lapham Road after seeing that the vehicle’s market light—which illuminates a license plate—was defective, according to a police report.

Approaching the vehicle, the officer detected the odor of marijuana and deployed Apollo the K-9. A brown glass smoking pipe with marijuana residue was found in the center console while a clear Zip-loc bag was discovered in an Arnold Palmer-brand peach half-and-half Sweet Tea Lemonade can, whose top twisted off, the report said.

The motorist was issued infraction summonses for possession of less than .5 ounces of marijuana and a defective marker light.
