The 22-year-old former New Canaan High School student arrested in May when he tried to enter the school by a rear door and then lied to police once inside is seeking a form of probation to resolve his arrest on two misdemeanor charges.
Tyler Moroch, of West Windsor, N.J., is hoping to qualify for “accelerated rehabilitation,” his attorney—Norwalk-based William Pelleatreau—told a state Superior Court judge in Norwalk.
Wearing a dark suit, light blue button-down shirt and glasses, Moroch said little during his appearance in the Norwalk courthouse, as Pelleatreau told Judge Alex Hernandez that his client has no criminal or motor vehicle record.
He was charged by New Canaan Police with loitering in or about a school and interfering with an officer.
At about 12:15 p.m. on May 1, a Monday, Moroch tried to enter the high school through a door to the cafeteria, according to a police report.
Confronted there by the school resource officer, a police officer who works out of NCHS (there’s another one at Saxe), Moroch said he was 17 years old and recently transferred to the school, the report said.
Moroch confirmed when asked by Hernandez that he is waiving his right to a trial by seeking accelerated rehab. It isn’t clear what the terms of the program would be. If successfully completed, ‘AR,’ as it’s known, typically involves counseling and community service, and results in criminal charges being dropped.
Moroch is scheduled to appear again on Aug. 31.
