Police on Friday night charged a 27-year-old Stamford man with driving under the influence.

At about 9:41 p.m. on March 9, an officer on patrol saw a car traveling northbound on Ponus Ridge run the stop sign at Frogtown Road, according to a police report.

The officer smelled alcohol on the driver’s breath during a subsequent stop, the report said, and saw a can of Fosters beer in the center console and bottle of Jim Beam on the passenger seat.

The driver failed field sobriety tests and was charged with DUI. He refused to undergo a blood-alcohol content test, the report said.

Police additionally cited him for drinking while driving, failure to obey a stop sign and failure to drive right.

He was released on $250 bond and scheduled to appear March 23 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
