Police on Saturday afternoon arrested a 59-year-old Darien woman and charged her with driving under the influence.

At about 2:22 p.m. on Oct. 15, an officer on patrol saw a vehicle run a red light on Route 123, striking another car at the Silvermine Road intersection, according to a police report.

On stopping the vehicle and speaking with the driver, the officer found signs of impairment, the report said. After conducting field sobriety tests, she was arrested on the misdemeanor charge and also cited for failure to obey a traffic control signal, it said.

The woman provided police a sample to establish her blood alcohol level, which came in at .2237, the report said. That’s nearly three times the legal limit of .08.

The woman was released on $250 bond and scheduled to appear Oct. 27 in state Superior Court.

  1. This is absolutely horrendous. Anytime of day this is unacceptable, but 2:22pm? Right when our entire town is driving their children around, and taking leaves to the transfer station? This person was absolutely drunk driving. Will their license be revoked? $250 seems like a minuscule drop in the bucket because they could’ve killed an entire family driving around that drunk. Fairfield County has a drinking problem.
