This week on 0684-Radi0, our free podcast (subscribe here in the iTunes Store), we talk to Felicia Gray Alford, the volunteer, community outreach and special projects director at New Canaan Mounted Troop. Those interested in volunteering at the Carter Street organization can email the Mounted Troop at volunteer@newcanaanmountedtroop.org.
Here are recent episodes:
I was a “trooper” in the 60s, with others who live locally, personally knew Margaret Self, friend of my mother’s, lived across the street from stables, who wrote many books on horsemanship. She came from horse country Northwest VA bought not just 25 acres but up Carter Street where her son Toby & wife Jennifer live today. We were the designated last calvary, wearing wool royal blue red lapel jackets. Very distinctive attire. Fond memories of walking in the Memorial Day Parade.
What distinguishes Mounted Troop from other nearby stables like Ox Ridge, is we learned to tack, clean our own bridles, saddles, horses we rode maintained an education protocol of true horsemanship.
Last time I met Margaret in 70s riding the train to NYC for her lastest book. Refined dignified intelligent lady.
