Letter: Meals On Wheels ‘Eternally Grateful’ to New Canaan Public Schools

The Meals on Wheels Board is incredibly proud of our volunteers and eternally grateful to Dr. Bryan Luizzi, superintendent of New Canaan Public Schools and the incredible cafeteria staff at New Canaan High School, who so graciously helped to keep our clients fed during the pandemic.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions we needed to shift gears and find a new location for our meal preparations. Bryan Luizzi and Melissa Shapiro, Meals on Wheels community coordinator, helped to facilitate a seamless transition to the NCHS cafeteria and on April 13th we began delivering meals from NCHS. We are happy to report that after two months, and 1968 meals served from the NCHS cafeteria, we have returned to Waveny Care Center. We are also truly blessed with the dedicated support and success that our volunteers bring to our organization and who keep the meals rolling. During this time of COVID-19, we have changed our schedule a bit to limit exposure to our clients and now have one dedicated volunteer delivering meals five days per week. It is during times like these that make us realize how truly lucky we are to live in a town like New Canaan, a community that steps up to help ensure all our residents are cared for during these trying times.  Our sincerest thanks to all who have helped to support our clients.
