Constance (Connie) McCune Sheppard, 81, of New Canaan, CT, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Connie was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to the late William J. McCune Jr. and Janet Waters on November 28, 1942. She grew up in Boston, MA, Scarsdale and Chappaqua, NY, and attended Chappaqua High School, where she met her husband, Leslie, during her Junior year. She went on to earn an Associate’s Degree from Green Mountain College.
Connie and Leslie married in 1962 and called many places home. They moved from New York to New Jersey, out to California, down to Delaware, and then spent 7 years in the UK during the 70s/ early 80s. On their return, she split her time between Boston, Cape Cod, Miami, FL, Pasadena, CA, and Connecticut.
Connie was a woman with many talents and interests. She could play a mean game of backgammon and tennis. She was also known to be a ruthless croquet player and loved the daily challenge of the New York Times Crossword. Though it was a love-hate relationship, she enjoyed watching the Mets with her husband and tolerated his Yankee games. She was an avid traveler and especially loved Paris and collecting shells on her favorite beaches in Sea Island, GA, Maui and Sanibel / Captiva Island, FL. But her greatest joy was being Mimi to her grandchildren, crisscrossing the country, to attend their important events, or traveling with them abroad.
Connie is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Leslie Davis Sheppard, her adoring children, Kirsten (Michael) Sheppard-Hyatt, Merrill (David) Flood, and Stacey (Scott) Essex. Her beloved grandchildren Alex Falk, Olivia and Sarah Lam, Hunter, Sydney and Campbell Essex. Siblings, Betsey (John) Vinton, Anne (Andrew) Hogeland, Heather McCune and Joseph (Gigi) McCune and sister in law Susan (David) Norris. She also has many wonderful nieces and nephews. Connie is preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas C. Creamer and George W. Creamer. She will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held in the Fall.
