New Canaan Police at 8:34 p.m. on Dec. 2 received a report of a glass window shattered at Gofer’s Ice Cream on Main Street. Juveniles were involved in the incident, police said.

Happy 100th birthday to New Canaan’s Bill Jones, who served in the Pacific on the aircraft carrier USS Essex during World War II. Born Dec. 8, 1922 in a little house on Cherry Street, the 1940 New Canaan High School graduate went on to become a 31-year veteran of the New Canaan Police Department, retiring as a lieutenant. Jones is also proud to be the longest-serving volunteer firefighter in New Canaan history and to have trained at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Va. in 1965. His family and friends held a celebration on his 100th at the Masonic Lodge on Main Street.

The owners of a White Oak Shade Road home on Monday filed eviction papers in state Superior Court, saying they haven’t paid $7,000 in monthly rent since June.

The New Canaan Fire Department, Engine Company 1 and Fire Marshal’s Office set up a mock living room to demonstrate Christmas Tree safety at the Holiday Stroll last Friday. More than 200 candy canes along with Christmas Tree safety tips were handed out, and many children were invited to board Rescue 5 with the help of fire personnel.

Police at 4:47 pm. on Nov. 30 received a report of lawn signs protesting the proposed cell tower at West School stolen from West Road.

Congratulations to Lavender Lashes owner Lauren Gaby, who has been providing eyelash extensions on Burtis Avenue since 2014, on moving into a new space on Main Street, partnering with Pigmenta Permanent Cosmetics as the lead technician for its New Canaan location. “It is a newly built space with both businesses under one roof, designed to provide the highest quality services in both fields,” Gaby said.

A motor scooter reported stolen Nov. 29 from Avalon Drive West was found in the nearby Lakeview Cemetery at 8 a.m. the following day, police said.

Police received reports of motorists passing stopped school buses on Dec. 2 in the areas of 681 Old Stamford Road (9:49 a.m.) 170 Weed St. (9:52 a.m.), 157 Weed St. (10:01 a.m.) and Locust Avenue and New Norwalk Road (10:05 a.m.).

Waveny LifeCare Network had a great afternoon decorating gingerbread houses with friends from UBS, who came with Waveny volunteers to bring the holiday spirit, company and fun to our residents. “We are grateful for the generous gift of supplies that have enabled our residents throughout the Waveny continuum to participate in the sights and smells and creativity of decorating gingerbread houses,” the organization said. “Holiday cheer lives here.”

Police at 9:21 a.m. on Dec. 3 received a report of an unlocked vehicle with the keys inside stolen from a Hillcrest Road home. It was recovered in Norwalk, police said.

The town’s Human Services Department recently received a donation of $700 from P.E.O. Chapter F-AC of New Canaan. P.E.O spokesperson Angela Materna said in a press release, “While our primary mission is helping women pursue their education through loans, grants, and scholarships, we are always very mindful of the community of which we are a part, and how we can be of service to that community.”

Finally, congratulations to Adrián Losada McMahon from New Canaan High School on being named one of four winners of an essay contest run by Optimum in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. Co-sponsored by TelevisaUnivision, the contest ran across 21 states and winners earned a scholarship.
