Congratulations to members of the New Canaan Chapter of the National Charity League on receiving the 2023 President’s Volunteer Service Award, honoring individuals and groups who meet certain criteria and “whose service positively impacts communities…and inspires those around them to take action.” Individual awardees for 2023 include Teddy Smedley (Gold award for 110.25 hours of service) and Chandler Wagner (Bronze award for 56 hours of service). Recipients of the “NCL, New Canaan Chapter Distinguished Service Group” award (Gold level for a combined 346.75 hours of service) include: Lucy Casey, Sophie Dunlap, Izzy Kittredge, Emma Row, Teddy Smedley, Chandler Wagner, and Tema Wagner

On June 1, the New Canaan Service League of Boys or “SLOBs” will open registration for incoming and enrolled NCHS students to join or renew membership. Once a member and his parent join, they learn how to use a website tool to find and sign up for service hours and volunteer events around the school’s local community.

Learn hands-only CPR and AED: There’s no advance registration needed to participate in the 20-minute “Hands For Life” training, to be held between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday at the New Canaan YMCA.

A complaint submitted to the state in December, saying that chemical spills were not being addressed correctly at the First District Water Department’s treatment plant in New Canaan, has led to citations of violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act, reports Nancy On Norwalk.

Congrats to New Canaan High School senior baseball player Alex Benevento on recording his 100th career hit against Fairfield Warde this past Monday night. The Rams co-captain reached the milestone in style with a home run. As the season hits the halfway point, Benevento is hitting a remarkable .739 (20-26) on the season with 3 HR and 10 RBI. He has struck out just twice all year with 10 walks and has been intentionally walked six times. A two-time state champion football player for NCHS, Benevento will be playing baseball for Brown University next spring.

Police will host Drug Take Back Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 27 at the side main entrance to Town Hall (no syringes).
