Halo Fitness on Grove Street.

The New Canaan Racquet Club announced this week that it’s pursuing a renovation of its 6,000-square-foot fitness facility, Halo Fitness, including a new 1,200-square-foot “Turf Room” designed for speed, agility and strength training, dynamic warm-ups, stretching and group exercise classes.

First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan will host “Surviving the Holidays After a Loss” 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17. “Receive reassurance that you are not alone and hear how others survived the holidays after their loss,” organizers say. Lunch will be provided.

Police at 8:46 a.m. Monday received a report of an item stolen from the Mobil Mart on South Avenue downtown. It involves a juvenile, police said.

Veterans Day at Waveny LifeCare Network. Contributed

Waveny LifeCare Network hosted a Veterans Day ceremony honoring both veterans in the local community and in the organization’s residences. Joined by Norwalk High School Air Force Junior ROTC, state Sens. Bob Duff (D-25th) and Ceci Maher (D-26th), state Rep. Tom O’Dea (R-125th), First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan‘s Rev. Scott Herr and pianist Sherry Tate, Waveny’s residents, families, friends and staff participated in a moving ceremony fitting of those who served our nation, as well as those who continue to serve. “Many thanks to all who joined and participated,” organizers said.

The National Charity League‘s Prospective Member Wine Social is coming up on Nov. 20: The Canaan Parish Chapter of the National Charity League will be hosting an Open House for moms of girls who are currently in grades 6 and 7. “NCL programs empower women to succeed as confident, well-rounded contributors to society while making a positive impact in the communities they serve,” organizers say. “We foster the mother-daughter relationship through an ongoing commitment to philanthropy, culture and leadership. Come and meet some of our members, learn more about our organization, and enjoy a fun night out.” RSVP by Nov. 18 to membershipcanaanparish@nclonline.org.

Police at 7:56 p.m. Sunday received a complaint of noise coming from an apartment at Canaan Parish. The matter was referred to property management.

The New Canaan Community Foundation has awarded the New Canaan YMCA with a $100,000 grant in support of the Y’s facility energy project and upcoming installation of a Combined Heat and Power system. The initiative is expected to drastically improve energy efficiency, reduce the Y’s carbon footprint by two-thirds and provide the Y with the ability to serve as the town’s emergency shelter with a permanent on-site generator.

A dog vs. dog fight at River Street and Brushy Ridge Road was reported to police at 7:46 p.m. on Nov. 7. Neither animal was injured, officials say.

The 21th annual New Canaan Turkey Trot, benefiting Open Doors—a Norwalk organization that provides support to adults and families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless—will return to Waveny on the morning of Nov. 24. Supporters can also sign up for a virtual 5K run or 1-mile walk. The 2024 Turkey Trot is co-chaired by Pia Bausman, Caroline Squillante, Adelaide Tuff, and Henry Hladick, who are joined by committee members Rowan Richey Elliott, Caroline Richey Elliott, Delia Bakal, Cole Campisi, Lanie Campisi, Eloise Tuff, Finn Roeder, Lucy Casey, Ashton Pinkernell, Will Sullivan, Charlie Sullivan, Blake Schwartz, Tyler Schwartz, Charlie O’Neil, Gavin Degaetano,  Sadie Tamburri, Wyatt Rotchford, Will Stimpson, and Connor Furman. Race day check-in opens at 10:30 a.m. and the race starts at 11:30 a.m. The event registration fee is $45 in advance. Students are also selling Turkey Trot winter hats, gloves and T-shirts.

Police at 8:28 a.m. on Nov. 9 arrested a 54-year-old Stamford man via paperless re-arrest warrant and charged him with first-degree failure to appear in connection with an investigation out of Norwalk. An officer on patrol checked on his wellbeing after spotting a man walking with a blanket wrapped around him in the area of Lapham Road, police said. He was released on $5,000 bond and scheduled to appear Nov. 2 in state Superior Court. It’s unclear what the man had been charged with by Norwalk Police. His case has been statutorily sealed, according to Connecticut Judicial Branch records.

There, find a link to an online signup form to select a time to pick up a kit at the new BHS office at 93 Cherry St. on Nov. 21. Note: The kits are reserved for New Canaan families with children under 10.

The Carriage Barn Arts Center recently elected three new members to its Board of DirectorsHeather Jones, Sue Kemp and Bo Marcus, all of New Canaan. IRS-trained and certified AARP tax counselors will be at the Lapham Community Center on Wednesdays between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.  starting Feb. 5 to provide free income tax preparation.
