New Canaan Police at 8:25 p.m. on Sept. 11 received a report of $5 stolen from the New Canaan Laundromat. The investigation is ongoing.

Congratulations to Sophie Dunlap, Chandler Wagner, Caroline Palmer, Abby Dunlap, Raina Shah and Lucy Casey of the National Charity League, New Canaan Chapter on earning special recognition by the office of U.S. Rep. Jim Himes in place of the suspended Presidential Volunteer Service Award Program during a ceremony at Waveny. Sophie Dunlap and Chandler Wagner received top honors with the Gold Award for volunteering more than 100 hours for local philanthropies.

The town will install 18,000 bricks as part of the Pine Street repaving project, officials said during Tuesday’s Board of Selectmen meeting.

The Parking Commission at its Sept. 3 meeting upheld a $35 ticket issued to a Norwalk man at 12:02 p.m. on Aug. 15 (a Friday) for parking in a “No Parking Zone” at the Center School Lot. In a written appeal, the man said, “2 big truck blocking drive making it not possible to park in lot.”

Mark A Weber

The New Canaan Preservation Alliance last week announced the election of Mark Weber to its Board of Directors. He held several positions at the New York Landmarks Conservancy retiring as director of the New York City Historic Properties Fund. Prior to that, he held positions at the World Monuments Fund and Preservation Society of Newport County. In addition he also founded and managed a preservation consultancy. Weber holds a master’s degree in Historic Preservation from Boston University and lives in Darien with his wife, Christina.

The selectmen on Tuesday appointed Ian Rasmussen to the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Project Pink New Canaan, raising awareness during Breast Cancer Month, is entering its third year. The lampposts downtown will be decorated with bows, pink lights and personalized dedication tags. Purchase a dedication tag here. The deadline to purchase is Sept. 23 (they go up Sept. 26).

The selectmen on Tuesday approved the hiring of Adrienne Vitti as assistant to the Town Clerk, Michael Burns as groundsman II, and Joseph Vitti, Darius Kirkland and Peter Veltri as equipment operators in the Highway Department.

The Gridiron Club of New Canaan recently presented the New Canaan High School Scholarship Foundation with a donation of $5,000, proceeds from Gridiron’s annual show. This year’s April 2025 event recognized Wendy Coleman Dixon Hilboldt for her outstanding example and many years of community service to New Canaan.
