More than 500 New Canaan customers of Eversource remained without power at 1:45 p.m. Sunday as a Nor’Easter that pounded the shoreline starting Friday also brought down branches and utility lines in town.

The figure—about 5.9% of all customers—is an improvement over the 940 Eversource customers that were without power as of 9:30 a.m. In a townwide outcall on Sunday morning, Emergency Management Director Russ Kimes III reported that most of those 940 customers were along South Avenue.
Some businesses downtown, including the New Canaan Racquet Club, also reported power outages.
“The remaining outages, per Eversource’s website, appear widely scattered which may result in a prolonged restoration period,” Kimes said.
Emergency responders oversaw downed trees, branches and wires on Marshall Ridge, Country Club, Cascade and Toquam Roads, as well as Wahackme Lane, Kimes said.
“Treat every downed line as if it were a live wire, do not remove barricades or police tape blocking roads with downed wires,” he said.
New Canaan and all of southern Fairfield County on Sunday remained under a Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by the National Weather Service.
