Eversource on Monday released an updated construction schedule as the utility runs natural gas lines into New Canaan.

Notably, as the company works north on Main Street through Sept. 8, from Farm Road to Maple Street, the roadway will be open to school buses and alternating one-way traffic will be maintained outside of school bus hours, according to Eversource spokesman Mitch Gross.

Also, though Eversource will working along South Avenue from Farm Road to the YMCA from Sept. 6 to 11, while school is in session and near the main entrance to Saxe Middle School, most of that work will be off the road “so traffic flow should not be affected,” Gross said in an email to NewCanaanite.com.

Even so, First Selectman Kevin Moynihan said town officials are urging Eversource to finish the stretch of South Avenue between Farm Road and the Saxe driveway on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday, rather than on school days or next week. Town officials had asked the company in early August to finish all work near the schools by Aug. 30, he said.

The following construction schedule is weather-permitting and subject to change:

  1. It’s like they’ve turned our Town into a giant “escape room.” Trying to get to work this summer, I’ve been stymied at every turn. Normally takes 5 minutes to get to the Merritt, now more like 15. Of course, that’s just a temporary inconvenience, not like the poor towns at the other, “fracking,” end of the pipe who may have to contend with lasting problems.
