He is also survived by his son and daughter-in law, Jim and Lisa Hermes; and daughter and son-in law, Liz and Kier Riemersma; as well as his grandsons, Taylor and Jack Hermes and Rocky Riemersma.

Frank (or Sandy or Max, depending on who you ask) was born in New Rochelle, NY and went on to grow up in New Canaan, CT with his father Frank, mother Jerry, and sisters Pat and June. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1965 and stayed close to his alma mater all his life. After graduating from college, Frank served in the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Eustis in Newport News, VA.

His married life with Cindie started with a brief honeymoon in Colonial Williamsburg and came full circle when they moved to Ford’s Colony in Williamsburg in 2012. Along the way, they also lived in the Philadelphia area; Westfield, NJ; Wilton, CT; Cherry Hills, CO; Sudbury, MA; and Westerville, OH.

After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School in 1968, Frank had a successful career primarily as a marketing executive that included stints at Citicorp and Standard & Poor’s. He especially enjoyed his “post-retirement” consulting with Atlas Systems in Virginia Beach.

Outside of work, Frank coached his kids’ soccer and baseball teams with varying degrees of success, played tennis and paddleball with Cindie and their friends, completed the New York Times crossword puzzle nearly every day, developed an appreciation for and knowledge about wine, and played golf (also with varying degrees of success). Frank and Cindie enjoyed traveling to destinations all over the world. In Williamsburg, Frank was an active member of the Lions Club.

But his favorite activity in nearly every place he lived was singing in the church choir, most recently at the Bruton Parish Episcopal church in Colonial Williamsburg. Singing in the choir was part of a lifelong love of music that included playing the trombone in jazz and marching bands from his school days through his time in the Army.

Frank was a lifetime fan of the New York-area sports teams, particularly the New York Giants. He also became an ardent fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes football team when he lived in Ohio, and was able to see them win the national championship just hours before he passed away.

Seven paragraphs can’t begin to sum up Frank’s life and the impact he had on his family and friends. We will miss him dearly.

Funeral services for Frank will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, February 1 at the Bruton Parish Episcopal Church, 201 W Duke of Gloucester St, Williamsburg, VA 23185. The service will be followed by a reception at the Custis House across the way from the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that anyone who wishes to make a donation, do so to FISH Williamsburg Food Pantry and Clothing (https://fishwilliamsburg.org/donate-to-fish-williamsburg/).
